Dave finished the floor grills today. What a job that was. Cutting into 50 year old floor is not an easy job. The wood has hardened like cement it seems.
There’s still some work to do before the cabinets arrive in July. A closet needs to be constructed, some wiring moved. I also need to buy a new sink and taps so that we have them when the contractor needs to make a template for the counter top.

Good work Dave!
We played golf at the Irish Hills course after work today. It was a warm sunny day and hardly anyone was there.
The course is on Carp road not too far from my work. It is for sale.
It’s an “up and down” course. It was fine for me. I managed to loose a few balls seemingly out in the open. I am hitting a few more good shots but for the most part I am not where I was at the end of last season.
We played just the two of us and until hole #14 we were moving at our own pace. Then we got bunched up and had to wait a bit. We managed to finish the 18 holes before it even started to get dark.
Today is Thomas’ birthday. He is the son of Carla & Paul and he is 9 years old. He is such a sweet kid and full of energy.
Happy Birthday!
We played golf at Madawaska in Arnprior.
It was a very windy day and that’s not ideal for me. The course was nice. There are many big trees including a beautiful Willow at the beginning.
The course runs along the highway and this makes for background noise even on the furthest holes. It isn’t quite as relaxing as it could be.
They added someone to play with us at the beginning and another joined us on hole #10.
It was a good day.
We played our second round of golf today at Nationview in South Moutain. I have never played there before. It’s a very nice course for us. We took the scenic way to get there. We went through small towns that I have never heard of before. It was a beautiful drive on a sunny morning.
It is in a nice small town and feels like a community golf course. Everyone greeted us with a big smile and a nice hello – the people who were also golfing today, the lady at the counter, the young girl in the restaurant, everyone.
The greens weren’t in great shape because for the first time ever they had mold on them because of the huge amount of snow they had received this year. That’s fine by me. I know it is still early in the year. The fairways were in excellent shape.
Again there were few people on the course. We had no one with us and just played at our own speed. On one hole we caught up to 2 guys and actually hit into them not realizing they were in the trees on the side of the hole.
We apologized but they were very friendly and without hesitation told us to play through. No kidding, I wouldn’t want me behind me either!
I hit probably my best shot of the day as they are watching me. I really do need an audience.
We had open holes ahead of us the rest of the way. Again we finished in just over 3 hours. I like speed golf. I really enjoyed that. We were home just after lunch.
We had a beautiful sunny morning with a breeze that helped keep the bugs down. It started raining a couple of hours after we got home. We sure timed that well.
We finalized the deal today with Laurysen kitchens. I made a down payment and signed the papers.
The cabinets will arrive sometime in early July.
Before then we need to build our closet, move the light switches, install 3 more wooden air vents, remove all the old cabinets, have the floors refinished, buy a sink & tap, redo the door trim on the patio door, buy light fixtures for over the island and the dining table…
There’s still so much to do before the new cabinets arrive. I think the 6-8 weeks will go by very fast.
Dave spent more hours than he wanted to installing our fan. He had to crawl around the attic to vent it to the outdoors. Since we didn’t have a fan before he needed to make the vent opening and connect the pipes.
Our house has a low slopping roof. The attic is barely wide/high enough for someone to get into. Here’s where Dave spent the better part of an afternoon. Needless to say he wasn’t very happy. “I’m not going up there again” he said.
Unfortunately this isn’t the first time he has mucked around in there. Although we both hope it’s his last, never say never.
The fan looks good. We haven’t peeled off the protective plastic yet but it works great and the 2 lights are a bonus.
It’s slowly coming together. Still quite a way to go though.
Carla was generous enough to offer the kids a wall unit they no longer needed. Kat decided she could use it in her new house.

It has glass doors and glass shelves. Carla took the doors off for us so that all we had to do was move it. Dave and Paul manage to bring all 3 units up the stairs and out of the house without damaging any walls along the way.
We used our trailer to move them thinking we could fit all 3 in it at once. But they didn’t all fit so we made 2 trips to Hong’s house. The plan is to store them in their basement until Kat & Hong move in March ‘09.
The units didn’t fit down the basement stairs so we opted to leave them in the garage until Brian moves out in Sept ‘08 then we can store them in our basement. Whew!
We decided to bring the doors here since it all ends up here anyway. When we unloaded at our place the 2 long doors were broken in half. Oh oh…
We’ll wait and see whether they want to replace them or not. I guess we aren’t very good movers.
We played our first round of golf today at Poplar Grove. I have never played there before. Brian asked us “Are you bringing your helmets?”. Hmmm that’s a strange thing to say.
We arrived to an almost empty parking lot. There were few people on the course.
Once we started playing I could understand what Brian meant. The holes are close together and if there had been a lot of people playing we may have felt like we were targets.
The greens weren’t in great shape and the sand traps had no sand in them but this is my first time out and it fits me just fine.
We had no one with us and just played at our own speed. On one hole we caught up to 3 guys but they without hesitation let us through. I hit probably my best shot of the day as they are watching me. Maybe I need an audience?
We had open holes ahead of us the rest of the way. I have never played golf in under 4 1/2 hours (for 18 holes that is). Today we finished in 3 hours. I like speed golf. I really enjoyed that. We were home just after lunch.
